Eric Hentzen, MD, PhD

After completing his orthopaedic residency at UCSD, Dr Hentzen obtained specialized training in upper extremity surgery at the Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore, Maryland and in orthopaedic trauma at the renowned Carite Hospital in Berlin, Germany.

He has authored a number of articles in orthopaedic and bioengineering journals and has presented his work at national meetings.  His current research focuses on skeletal muscle injury and repair, tendon transfer and advanced techniques in hand fracture fixation and rehabilitation.

Dr Hentzen has an ongoing involvement in medical mission work that has been fostered by his orthopaedic training abroad as well as previous medical experiences in underdeveloped countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Clinical Interests: Treatment of post-traumatic, degenerative and developmental conditions of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand.  This includes fracture care, arthroscopy, joint replacement and microsurgical techniques such as nerve repair, replantation and tissue transfer.
