Academic Profile

Anna Kulidjian, MD is an orthopedic surgeon with dual fellowship training in joint reconstruction and musculoskeletal oncology.

Dr. Kulidjian trained with legendary orthopedic joint reconstruction surgeon, Alan Gross, MD at Mt. Sinai Hospital, and with two North American leaders in orthopedic oncology, Robert Bell, MD and Jay Wunder, MD, at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. She performs primary and complicated revision knee and hip replacements using advanced technologies and minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Kulidjian is also a member of the oncology team at the NCI-designated Moore's UCSD Cancer Center, where she surgically removes bone tumors as well as tumors found in soft tissues such as muscle, fascia, fat and skin. She is also skilled at restoring the injured limb through complex reconstructions and limb salvage techniques.

Dr. Kulidjian grew up in Armenia and moved to Toronto with her family after the devastating 1986 earthquake. She decided to become a physician after being involved in earthquake recovery efforts and observing her father, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, bring amputee children from Armenia to Toronto to receive life-changing orthopedic procedures.

Bringing the advances we enjoy in the developed world to those less fortunate is a passion of Dr. Kulidjian’s. She is working to set up trauma care in a remote area in Kenya at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Through the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Fund, Dr. Kulidjian has organized a charity hike for July 2011 up Mt. Kilimanjaro to fund the purchase of an ambulance to support trauma care for the Maasai community.

Dr. Kulidjian’s research interests include trying to understand the mechanisms of sarcoma metastasis and the role of stem cells in the initiation and maintenance of the disease. In the laboratory, she works to find novel therapies to treat sarcoma.

A dedicated clinician, researcher, teacher, and the mother of three children ages 2-12, Dr. Kulidjian hikes, surfs and is a skilled amateur chef. She is fluent in Armenian Russian.
