Dr Smith is an Orthopaedic Surgeon who specializes in the surgical and non-surgical  treatment of foot and ankle injuries.  He graduated from medical school at the University of California, San Francisco.  He then completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.  His training culminated with a fellowship in Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgery under internationally renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon Michael J Coughlin, MD.

Dr Smith has been active his entire life, enjoying basketball, skiing, camping and rock climbing.  Dr Smith is currently a member of the Allied Climbers of San Diego and can be seen regularly at the Vertical Hold Climbing Gym, scaling Red Rocks in Las Vegas, or climbing in Arizona.  He has treated athletes from all walks of life and enjoys helping patients return to activity.

Growing up in Southern California, Dr Smith was inspired to become an Orthopaedic Surgeon by his mother, who is a scrub nurse, and his father, a physician.  "I believe in treating patients like family, with open, honest communication.  I'm committed to doing whatever it takes to get my patients back on their feet."

Dr Smith has published numerous articles and book chapters on the subjects of ankle and hindfoot arthritis, tendon reconstruction and bunion deformities.  As a faculty member and Chief of Foot and Ankle Surgery of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, his main motivation is to share and teach the joys of caring for patients, including the importance of developing relationships while helping patients  regain their quality of life.
