Adult Joint Reconstruction Fellowship

About the Fellowship

The Adult Joint Reconstruction Fellowship at UC San Diego has been developed to train future hip and knee joint replacement specialists. The fellow will be exposed to a comprehensive approach to surgical treatment of arthritic conditions of the hip and knee in a diverse patient population. The fellow will be proficient in a broad range of surgical procedures, from primary and revision hip and knee replacements to the latest surgical techniques, including the direct anterior and mini-posterior hip replacement, hip resurfacing, unicondylar knee replacement, custom implants and computer assisted surgery.

Applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited residency in orthopaedic surgery. Fellows must be board-eligible or board-certified and have a California Medical License and California Fluoroscopy License prior to commencement of the fellowship.

The Center of Joint Care at UC San Diego is a high volume joint replacement institution in San Diego County. Our Health System has an extensive referral base and is one of the largest tertiary care centers for peri-prosthetic joint infections, complex revisions and specialized care in joint arthroplasty.

The fellow has dedicated time for research and didactic conferences during the week. Research opportunities include basic science, clinical, outcomes and biomechanics. The program is designed for the fellow to gain an in-depth, up-to-date and thorough experience in joint replacements and be well prepared to build a surgical practice in an academic or private setting.
