UC San Diego Facilities

Our residents and fellows have the unique opportunity to train at multiple UC San Diego locations and affiliate facilities, providing them with exposure to a wide variety of patients and cases. UC San Diego Health has repeatedly been placed on the top 10 list of "Best Hospitals" by  U.S. News & World Report and as of 2024 holds the #1 ranking in San Diego.

Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego Health

Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego Health is a 364-bed advanced medical center that is home to inpatient care, surgical facilities, outpatient clinics, a blood bank and a pharmacy. It is connected to Perlman Medical Offices and includes Thornton Pavilion, an inpatient facility formerly known as Thornton Hospital. It is within walking distance of Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, Shiley Eye Institute and Moores Cancer Center.

Koman Family Outpatient Pavilion at UC San Diego Health

The Koman Family Outpatient Pavilion is an outpatient clinical facility on UC San Diego Health's La Jolla campus. It is located between Moores Cancer Center and Jacobs Medical Center. It includes eight surgery suites, basic and advanced imaging, physical therapy and pain management services designed for patients who will be treated same day.

Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery has laboratory space predominately at the Altman Clinical and Translational Institute (ACTRI) located adjacent to Jacobs Medical Center. Sophisticated tools and techniques are available in these labs for bioengineering, physiology, biochemical, hard and soft tissue morphology, tissue culture and bioengineering.

UC San Diego Medical Center

UC San Diego Medical Center, in Hillcrest, is the first of two primary hospitals for the  University of California San Diego School of Medicine. It is a 390-bed patient facility and home of the region's first Level I Trauma Center. The region's first academic medical center offers both primary care and specialized services, including surgery, diagnosis and management of genetic disease, neurology, orthopedics and oncology.

UC San Diego Chancellor Park

The UC San Diego Health Chancellor Park is located a few minutes away from the main UC San Diego campus and provides specialized surgical services including lung transplant, heart transplant, plastic surgery, sports medicine and other services.

UC San Diego Health Medical Offices North

UC San Diego Health Medical Offices North is located within the north end of the UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest and provides services including general surgery, orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. It also includes a trauma clinic.

Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego

Situated centrally between the UC San Diego Medical Center and the main campus in La Jolla, Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego is a nonprofit, 511-bed pediatric-care facility dedicated to excellence in care, research and teaching. It is the only hospital in the San Diego area dedicated exclusively to pediatric health care and the region’s only designated pediatric trauma center.

Naval Medical Center San Diego

The Naval Regional Medical Center (also referred to as  Bob Wilson Naval Hospital or as "Balboa Hospital") has 272 beds and 18 operating rooms, and is the major Naval Medical Center for the Southwestern United States and the Pacific theater. It is the largest and most comprehensive military health care system in the Western United States.

VA San Diego Healthcare System

The VA San Diego Healthcare System is adjacent to the La Jolla campus and has 296 authorized beds, including skilled nursing beds. The Healthcare System is a teaching hospital that provides a full range of health services for veterans, with leading-edge technology as well as education and research. The Healthcare System is primarily affiliated with the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine.
