This fellowship provides a broad exposure to the management of multiply-injured patients, mixed with the management of orthopedic infections and nonunions. The fellow will be an integral member of the orthopedic trauma team by being involved in resident teaching, conferences, clinical evaluation and surgical treatment.
Special areas of interest include complex periarticular fractures, pelvic and acetabular fractures and nonunions. The program is based at one of the regions few level 1 trauma centers.
Research opportunities are offered in basic science, clinical and biomechanics. There is a weekly orthopedic trauma conference, a biweekly trauma conference with general surgery, a monthly Grand Rounds dedicated to trauma and opportunity to attend national meetings.
UC San Diego and San Diego County Health policies mandate that all health care workers be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations or have an exemption for medical or religious reasons (subject to review and approval). In addition, UC San Diego's major affiliates have similar expectations. Health care workers who are out of compliance may not participate in direct patient care.
This fellowship participates in the SF Match program.
All applicants must have completed an accredited residency program in orthopedic surgery. Fellows must be board-qualified or board-certified and have a California Medical License and California Fluoroscopy License prior to commencement of the fellowship.
